SUKI SOREN
30. Contract operative. Has killed eleven people. Finds most of them boring. Finds Lena interesting. Dressed well for someone who broke in through the hallway.

(A small apartment. Evening. The front door opens. LENA VOLKOV sets her keys on the counter, drops her bag by the door. She pulls her hair down. Walks toward the kitchen. Stops.)
(SUKI SOREN is sitting at the kitchen table, eating yogurt with a spoon.)
LENA VOLKOV
What the—
SUKI SOREN
You don't have any fruit.
LENA VOLKOV
How did you get in here.
SUKI SOREN
Your super leaves a key under the fire extinguisher in the hall. You should mention that to him.
(LENA doesn't move. Her phone is in her bag. Her bag is by the door.)
LENA VOLKOV
I should call someone right now.
SUKI SOREN
You should.
(Neither moves.)
SUKI SOREN
This yogurt is expired. By a week.
LENA VOLKOV
I've been working.
SUKI SOREN
On me?
(LENA doesn't answer.)
SUKI SOREN
Sit down.
LENA VOLKOV
I'm not sitting down.
SUKI SOREN
Your feet hurt. I can see the heels.
(The radiator clicks on.)
LENA VOLKOV
You broke into my apartment.
SUKI SOREN
I used a key.
LENA VOLKOV
That's not different.
SUKI SOREN
Your bathroom window lock is broken, by the way. Anyone could get in. I used the key because I'm polite.
(LENA takes one step into the kitchen. Stops.)
LENA VOLKOV
What do you want.
SUKI SOREN
What do you want to eat. I was going to order something.
LENA VOLKOV
No. I'm not— no.
SUKI SOREN
Why not.
LENA VOLKOV
Because I've spent six months—
(She stops herself.)
SUKI SOREN
Six months. What have you learned.
LENA VOLKOV
I know what you do.
SUKI SOREN
Everyone does something.
LENA VOLKOV
Not like this.
(SUKI pushes the yogurt aside.)
SUKI SOREN
That's flattering.
LENA VOLKOV
It's not meant to be.
SUKI SOREN
And yet.
(LENA pulls out the chair across from SUKI. Sits. Doesn't lean back.)
LENA VOLKOV
There are people who would be here in ten minutes if I called.
SUKI SOREN
Your team. I know where they are.
LENA VOLKOV
That's supposed to scare me?
SUKI SOREN
No. It's supposed to tell you I came alone and I'm not worried. That should say something about what I want.
LENA VOLKOV
Which is.
SUKI SOREN
A conversation.
LENA VOLKOV
About what.
SUKI SOREN
About why you picked my file.
LENA VOLKOV
It was assigned to me.
SUKI SOREN
It was available. You requested it.
(LENA's jaw tightens.)
LENA VOLKOV
How do you know that.
SUKI SOREN
Because I would have done the same.
LENA VOLKOV
We're nothing alike.
SUKI SOREN
That's the most dishonest thing you've said so far.
(LENA's phone buzzes from her bag by the door. They both look.)
SUKI SOREN
Monday check-in. Your team.
(The phone buzzes again.)
LENA VOLKOV
Don't move.
SUKI SOREN
I'll be right here.
(LENA walks to the bag. Picks up the phone. Looks at the screen. Looks back at SUKI, who takes another spoonful of yogurt.)
(into the phone)
LENA VOLKOV
Yeah. I'm home. Everything's fine.
(SUKI smiles.)
LENA VOLKOV
I'll call you back in ten.
(She hangs up. Puts the phone in her pocket.)
(She walks back to the table. Sits.)
LENA VOLKOV
Ten minutes.
SUKI SOREN
